  • What it is — an open-fronted retail park on Kennedy Way, anchored by a large Asda superstore, with a spread of around two dozen shops and services around it. Park once, get the messages done, grab a coffee.
  • What you'll do — a proper shop rather than a wander. The line-up runs Asda, B&M, Superdrug, Peacocks, Harry Corry, Shoe Zone and the Jollyes pet store, plus The Food Warehouse for the big frozen shop and Modern Tyres if the car needs a look while you're in.
  • How long — most people are in and out in an hour or so. It's a stock-up-and-go, not somewhere you'd build a whole day around.
  • Cost & parking — free to walk round, and the surface car park is free with plenty of spaces — a real plus over the city centre. You only pay for what you buy.

The Westwood Centre sits on Kennedy Way, the dual carriageway that carries west Belfast down onto the M1, with the Black Mountain and Divis rising behind it. It's a big-box retail park — reportedly around 130,000 square feet — built around a large Asda, the kind of place local families do the weekly shop and the messages rather than come for a day out.

It has had its ups and downs. For a while it carried a full leisure draw in the Airtastic trampoline and soft-play centre, which pulled kids' parties in from across the city; that business has since moved out to a bigger site in Newtownabbey, and the unit's story here has moved on with it. What's left is a solid, honest run of stores — the supermarket, the discount and homeware names, a pet shop, a fast-food stop and a tyre depot — the sort of line-up that quietly keeps a neighbourhood going.

The reason it earns a pin on a days-out map isn't the shopping itself — it's the setting. You're a couple of minutes from Colin Glen's zip line and forest trails, a short hop from the walks at Falls Park and the wetland birds of Bog Meadows, and right by the motorway for wherever you're headed next. Do the practical shop with the free parking, then go and use the day: get out, and go live it.
