The Moat and Camera Obscura make a great starting point, and Ultimate SUP NI gets you out on the water when conditions are right. Not far away, Ballycopeland Windmill is free and genuinely unusual.
The wider area — Bangor, Groomsport and Millisle — adds beaches, alpacas, soft play and escape rooms to the mix. Fourteen places here are free, so a good family day out doesn't have to break the budget.

More about Donaghadee
Donaghadee is a pretty seaside town built around its lovely harbour, which was designed by the great engineer John Rennie and completed in 1825, with its limestone lighthouse following soon after. Overlooking it all is the Motte, an old Norman mound now topped with a camera obscura giving views out to sea.
Grace Neill's pub here, opened in 1611, is one of several that claim to be the oldest bar in Ireland. From the harbour you can take a boat out to the Copeland Islands, an internationally important home for breeding seabirds like Manx shearwaters and Arctic terns.
